Katzenversammlung

Fuelled by the native beer
I career through the Teutonic park
inhaling the smell of alcohol
blending with the pleasant fumes of spring

The moonlight strangles the electronic halo
of inner city illumination and cuts through
the trees to appeal to my blurred sensibilities

Irrationally I pedal faster to pass
the gays who lurk in groups on nights like these
on this section of the route

bemused they stare at the tanked up figure
draped over a bicycle racing
through the sweet May night air

Five minutes from home
I slow to small shadows,
dots upon the endless lawn:

a colony of cats assembled,
a summit beneath
the moon
